Work Together

It started with a 2022 Memorial Service.  A relative of those who had passed came out on stage and said that he had loved to go to their house and "talk about 'Merica."  'Merica?  "'Merica," he said again, as if hearing me.  What the heck is 'Merica?  It's a song...with these lyrics:  "Buck antlers, Colonel Sanders, General Lee, Home of the brave and land of that Yee Yee... 'Merica."  THAT wasn't any place I knew.

I lived and believed in the United States of A-merica, a country where the Confederacy had been defeated and discrimination, racism, and bigotry have no place; a nation made by people from around the world who are working hard, every day, to build a better future for themselves and their kids; and a Pennsylvania home where, if we can just stand and work together with each other, we can become everything that God wants us to be.

The Lord woke me up three mornings later and gave me the Chorus and the First Verse to a song right out of my sleep:

“It’s about, Slow Rides, Saturday Night, leaning on my Baby’s arm;Hoe Downs, Throw Downs, Playing with the Kids in the Park.  Our Lives, are Livin' for Somethin', What We Hope We’ll See – Home of the Brave and Land of the Free – That’s America to Me.”

'Worked on it the whole day and finished it that night.  This can be our Mission, and our History, if we do it right.  Let's be about it.

Love is creative and redemptive. Love builds up and unites; hate tears down and destroys. Physical force can repress, restrain, coerce, destroy, but it cannot create and organize anything permanent; only love can do that. Yes, love — which means understanding, creative and redemptive goodwill, even for one’s enemies — is the solution...
